Brian Hopkins Jones, founder of The Rolling Stones passed away on July 3rd, 1969. He drowned in a swimming pool. Often a forgotten main member of Club 27, Brian was a multi-instrumentalist, as well as lead guitarist for The Stones and quite a lovely soul.
"He radiated sunshine, but you could see that he had all the problems of the world on his shoulders. There was such an ugliness there as well as the beauty."
-Shirley Arnold
"Such a nice man, such a lovely man to be around. He was kind, considerate and thoughtful. He was a comforting person...he had the capacity to make a young child who was feeling frightened feel OK."
- Damian Korner

James Marshall Hendrix died on September 18th, 1970. The autopsy showed he asphyxiated on vomit after combining sleeping pills with wine. Jimi was a pioneering electric guitarist, singer and songwriter for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. His unique guitar style was abundantly imitated by others.
"Jimi was playing all the stuff I had in my head. I couldn't believe it, when I first heard him. Man, no one can ever do what he did with a guitar. No one can ever take his place."
- Terry Kath

"I thought Jimi Hendrix... was just phenomenal."
- Carl Wilson

The probable cause of Janis Joplin death on October 4th, 1970, was a heroin overdose. Janis was lead vocalist and songwriter for Big Brother and the Holding Company, The Kozmic Blues Band and Full Tilt Boogie Band. She was the first lady of rock.
"She was open and spontaneous enough to get her heart trampled with a regularity that took me thirty years to experience or understand...Janis felt like an old soul, a wisecracking grandmother whom everybody loved to visit."
- Grace Slick
"She really gave you a piece of her heart."
- Stevie Nicks

James Douglas Morrison's passing on July 3rd, 1971, is one of mysterious context. Many theories and ideas have been brought forth as to how he went, but the one on his death certificate is heart failure. As no autopsy was performed, we'll never know for sure. Jim was lead singer for The Doors, but more importantly, he was a poet, a shaman, and a Lizard King. His songs were poems and his poems were songs.
"He was probably one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met. Extraordinarily well read. But there was a sense of intelligence about him that went beyond the academic. There was that sense of philosophical curiosity that had nothing to do with book learning. There was a sense of wiseness and maturity that he had about him that goes beyond a university degree."
- Kathy Lisciandro
"I felt that Jim was the only one in the class who read Ulysses, and understood it."
- Jim's English teacher

Tragically, Kurt Cobain who took his own life on April 5th, 1994. He was the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for Nirvana. His influence on the '90s was massive and he left a hole in the heart of many young GenX-ers.
"He really, really inspired me. He was so great. Wonderful. One of the best, but more than that. Kurt was one of the absolute best of all time for me."
- Neil Young
"That kid has heart."
- Bob Dylan
